The race to have the best translation tool continues to grow more and more, and Google Translate is taking the right steps to be ahead. A partner of Dynamic Language, Rick Antezana, a couple of years ago stated how companies are expanding their market so they can engage their customers at a much deeper level. Well, I think Google heard him because they recently announced in a blog post their latest translation tool innovation. With this new expansion, they appear to be well ahead of both Microsoft and Skype in terms of content and convenience.
FIRST MAIN REASON THEY ARE AHEAD OF SKYPE AND MICROSOFT
Google Translate was already compatible with several languages, but Google decided to make some more compatible. Recently this week, in their blog post, the company announced that they would be adding 13 new languages to their service. Some of these include Xhosa, Frisian, Samoan, Kurdish, and Shona, but there are many more. This now makes 103 languages that can be translated into their service. Adding on to the mind-blowing statistics is the fact that over 99 percent of the online population is covered. At least, that is what the company’s estimates are.
SECOND MAIN REASON THEY ARE AHEAD OF SKYPE AND MICROSOFT
Probably the best part about this service is that it works on smartphones. We all know they work on desktops, but many times people need to translate when they are on the road. You can hand-write, speak, type, or even take a picture of a given language and Google Translate will translate it for you. Not only this but on Android, some of the translation features are available offline. So, some features are accessible even if you do not have access to the internet. The offline version may not be perfect, but something is better than nothing. Move over Skype and Microsoft because you are outmatched in this one.
