The time has finally arrived, and Microsoft officially announced its HoloLens development kit. Developers can now buy this to test out holographic applications. However, Microsoft decided to up the ante as they revealed some games and apps for the HoloLens. This was a great treat from the company, and Skype headlines the best games and apps for it.
FIRST GAME AND APP: SKYPE
This is officially dubbed as Skype Holographic, and the world has known about this one for a while. Using Skype in the Microsoft HoloLens, the user can drag the Skype window around to interact with the guide directly. Also, you can show your Skype pal what you see and they can actually highlight what you need to accomplish.
SECOND GAME AND APP: HOLOTOUR
The corporate vice president of Microsoft, Kudo Tsunoda, explained a little about the HoloTour in a blog post. He mentioned how this app would allow viewers to be virtually transported to any location. You can think of this as a virtual Google Earth or Bing Maps, and users will get to experience it as if they were actually there. He then wrote how one could see a 360-degree display of Machu Picchu or Rome.
THIRD GAME AND APP: FRAGMENTS
Now, we get to the gaming portion of the HoloLens. The first game, Fragments, can be thought of as a Sherlock Holmes crime drama. As it is described, you will be sitting next to characters as they describe their experiences to you. The developers of this game explained in a video that they will actually hide a matchbox behind your coffee table, and this will add to the realism of the game.
FOURTH GAME AND APP: YOUNG CONKER
Anyone remember Conkers Bad Fur Day for the Nintendo 64? Well, this is the same protagonist but, this time, you can play as him in your living room. Basically, each level in this game will be played based on your real world environment. So, each gamer will have a different experience playing this game on the HoloLens!
