From March 5th until March 8th look out because an asteroid is set to flyby Earth. This is a 30-meter asteroid, but it is not as bad as it sounds. It would be if this was going to crash on Earth, but there is virtually no chance of that happening. On the peak of this news, here are a few things that you need to know.
FIRST THING: NASA SAYS THERE IS NO REASON TO BE CONCERNED
If you don’t want to take my word for it, then take the word of NASA. The manager of NASA’s CNEOS, Paul Chodas, revealed that no one should be concerned in the slightest about this asteroid. Chodas then mentions how the prospects for observing it have lessened. It is likely to be farther away, and it is going to be a lot dimmer than they previously believed, Chodas said. The company even announced that this asteroid has zero chance of impacting the Earth for at least the next century. So, there is no need to worry about living underground for the next week.
SECOND THING: SCIENTISTS CAN’T PINPOINT THIS ASTEROID
The problem with this asteroid is it has only been seen back in 2013, and it is a guessing game on where its orbit will place. Phil Plait, an astronomer, came up with the perfect analogy for this situation. He related this to an outfielder playing baseball. He asked people to envision themselves playing in the outfield and watching a batter hit a fly ball. However, immediately after the batter makes contact with the ball he mentions that you would close your eyes. Based on the fraction of a second you saw the ball hit, could you catch it? This is the question he posed, and he says the only way to catch it is to keep your eyes on the ball long enough. This can then, in turn, be related to the issue with this asteroid.
