In an inspiring showing of respect, Microsoft has wished the best of luck to Sony’s future in virtual reality. VR is going to be a big deal in 2016 with both PlayStation and Xbox slotted to use the technology. That being said, a little bit of healthy camaraderie never hurts.
SONY PLAYSTATION PREPARES TO GO FULL SPEED WITH VR
Although VR is still very new, this is not slowing down Sony’s plans to use the technology with their Playstation in 2016. The company already has more than 100 games planned for the device. That’s just the next few months alone. Xbox on the other hand, it taking things a bit slower. Microsoft already has its HoloLens device, but it’s gaming uses have not been solidified yet. According to Microsoft, they plan to take it slow until VR develops a bit more.
MICROSOFT PLAYING IT SAFE WITH XBOX AS VR BECOMES POPULAR
At the moment, Microsoft is focused on Windows 10. They believe it will be a good platform for innovation from developers. They have had some past experience with rushing projects with horrible results. It makes sense that they want to take things slow this time around. That being said, head of Xbox Phil Spencer wishes Sony the best of luck. Spencer states that for the Playstation to show success in VR will only result in success for Microsoft down the road. It’s just that he wouldn’t rather play the part of the guinea pig in this scenario. Instead, the fate of VR for Xbox will lie in the hands of Windows users. By having millions of users built their own environment, Spencer thinks this will lead to faster content innovation.
VR COULD SAVE WINDOWS OS
With Sony and Playstation taking on VR full speed ahead, this could actually work in favor of Windows 10. By having the Xbox take a back seat, Microsoft is playing it safe by watching VR develop in front of them. If Sony and Playstation fail, then Windows will be leading the way in VR development. A classic tortoise and hare scenario. If developers take to Windows 10 the way Spencer says they will, then this could mean a bright future for Windows in the virtual reality realm.
