The current generation of gamers have no idea what they missed back in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Some people won’t agree, but video games nowadays are not as good as they used to be. If you haven’t played these ten games yet, and I don’t know why you haven’t, then you need to now.
10. NBA JAM
Is there anything better than jumping from the 3-point line and dunking the ball? NBA Jam was a video game for the SNES that gave gamers an unbelievable experience while playing basketball. Nobody can ever forget the famous quote of “he’s on fire!”, because once you heard that you were unstoppable.
9. DONKEY KONG
The original Donkey Kong kicked things off for Mario, but he was actually known as Jumpman during the game. Donkey Kong is a simple video game as all you need to do is avoid his barrels and reach the top of the platform. However, that doesn’t take away from the game’s charm.
8. PAC-MAN
The original arcade game that started it all was Pac-Man. Even though the gameplay is very simple, it still remains fun to this very day. Be honest, how many quarters did you waste as a kid because you could not advance past a certain level? Pac-Man is one of the most addicting games ever, and that is why it still holds its charm.
7. MARIO KART 64
Mario Kart 64 may be the best racing game of all time, and it is still a blast to play to this day. Super Mario Kart was a solid game, but it was this racing game that should be remembered as the better of the two.
6. STREETS OF RAGE
The beat em’ up genre has never been my favorite, but Streets of Rage reminds me that it can still be great. This is one of the hardest video games of all time, but that doesn’t make going around and pounding the enemies heads in any less fun.
5. CONTRA III
The Alien Wars were upon us when we played Contra III, and you could feel every moment of it. This 2D shooter/platforming video game features some of the most intense levels you will ever play. I can also speak for everyone when I say screw that vehicle level!
4. SUPER MARIO BROS
The most popular video game of all time is Super Mario Bros, and many say that this game saved the video game industry. Although this game does have its flaws, the memories that Super Mario Bros gave us will never leave.
3. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3
Before Sonic was a laughing stock, he was a legend for Sega. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is widely considered the best Sonic game, and I couldn’t agree more. This game had the best levels, atmosphere, and feel of any game in the Sonic franchise.
2. MEGA MAN
If I were to make a list of the ten hardest video games of all time, Mega Man would be on the list. Outside of its pathetically hard difficulty, Mega Man is one of the most entertaining platforming games of all-time. The entire series is fantastic, but this one holds a special place in a lot of gamers hearts.
1. SUPER MARIO BROS 3
Even though the first Super Mario Bros started it all, the third installment is widely considered the best. Super Mario Bros 3 took this franchise to another level, and it added several amazing power-ups. Whether you want to fly in a level with the P-Wing, skip over a level with Lakitu’s Cloud, or swim like a professional with the Frog Suit there is always an excellent power-up to find. Super Mario Bros 3 was also the first Mario game to give us a fully engaging world map, and it is still one of the best.
