BMW aims to be better than Google Self-Driving Car

BMW aims to be better than Google Self-Driving Car Clapway

We saw Tesla recently get involved in the self-driving game, and now one of the world’s best carmakers is jumping in. BMW has released a new concept dubbed the Vision Next 100 which will showcase what their cars in  2116 will look like. Let’s just say it’s a step up from what Google has planned.

BMW TRULY MAKES THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE

Though the future of cars seems to be involved in self-driving, BMW promises that this technology won’t mark the end of spirited driving.  The preview of the ultimate driving machine in 2116 will combine the best of both worlds. It will use the Google autonomous concept but continue with the pure, driver-focused experience that BMW is famous for. Self-driving doesn’t have to mean the death of the driver, it can be used to enhance it.

GOOGLE HAS NO PLACE IN MAKING CARS

Standing by itself, the Google self-driving car is an impressive concept. Compared to BMW, one of the leaders in luxury car manufacturing, the Google car is starting to look a bit wimpy. The Vision Next 100 is completely designed around the driver. It will offer two driving modes called Boost and Ease. With Boost as one can imagine, the driver is in total control of the car. A steering wheel is available as well as all kinds of worthy information about the car that surround the vision of the driver. This is done on a heads up display without any instrument  cluster or touchscreen. Ease mode literally will put the driver at ease. The steering wheel goes into the dash, and center console tilts away, giving more room for the driver. The same heads-up display that previously showed vital information now transforms into an entertainment system for all to enjoy.

SELF-DRIVING CARS SHOULD BE ABOUT FREEDOM

BMW’s rendition of the self-driving car certainly seems all about freedom. It’s about giving the driver an option to feel the dips and dives of the road. The Google car, on the other hand, feels more like a trap. They may not even have a steering wheel included at all. This may be wonderful for the lazy, but for the real drivers of the world, the one’s who want to control their driving experience should look to Vision Next 100 for the future of the ultimate driving machine.
