Amazon is no stranger to E-commerce. They’ve already made major strides in a variety of competitive businesses. Shipping, delivery, book publishing, electronics, video streaming and cloud storage show just how diversified the company is. Seemingly, that wasn’t enough. VR is the latest trend the e-commerce giant will tackle, and rumor has it that it will be amazing. Here’s why.
1. AMAZON WILL USE IMMERSIVE STORYTELLING
Yes, that is exactly as cool as it sounds. The company has been dabbling with creating their own video content lately, not unlike Netflix or Hulu. This was far from the end game, however. Imagine watching your favorite original content from a whole new perspective. Immersion.
2. VR WILL USHER IN A NEW GENERATION OF ENTERTAINMENT
Amazon VR will not just be 3D television. It will represent a new generation of entertainment. Think content creation instead of content consumption.
3. GAMING DEVELOPMENT WILL BE FREE
Just last month, Amazon has made its game development engine Lumberyard free to the public. VR support for the engine is already in the works. Game developers will be able to create their custom virtual reality gaming experience for free.
4. IT WILL BE HIGH QUALITY
Amazon doesn’t seem to be messing around with the quality of their virtual reality. This will not be some lame attempt at entertainment, but a full-fledged effort of progression. The fact they are asking for a senior development manager with 15-plus years of engineering experience says something. They truly believe that the future of entertainment is virtual reality. They aim to make their first attempt a worthwhile one.
5. IT WILL STIMULATE COMPETITION
VR is already a highly competitive market. Now that Amazon is entering the race, one can only assume that rivals like Hulu and Netflix will only step up their game. If VR is the future that many think it will be, then we can expect round after round of high-quality production. Think about what Apple did for the smartphone. The production of the iPhone resulted in all kinds of healthy competition for the smartphone market. Virtual reality. is the next big thing, expect to see some intense rivalries brew in the coming years.
