World of Warcraft: 5 Things You Didn’t Know Clapway

Over the past decade, I can’t think of another video game that has been as widespread as World of Warcraft. The community that it has established over the last several years has been unprecedented. With such a huge fan base, everything should be known about them, right? Wrong, and here are five things that you actually didn’t know about World of Warcraft.

1. PHYSICAL COPIES OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT THAT HAVE BEEN SOLD

As of 2014, there have been 14 million physical copies of World of Warcraft sold. This number is probably even larger now, and this does not account for digital downloads. If you do the math, given that the game launched in 2004, it averages over one million sold copies a year.

2. WORLD OF WARCRAFT LINES OF CODE

As someone who has done an extensive amount of computer programming, I can tell you that 5.5 million lines of code would make your brain melt.

3. THE SQUARE MILES OF AZEROTH

Gamers who have played World of Warcraft have spent countless hours wandering the realms of Azeroth. Just how much land are you traversing, though? The answer, in an approximate real-life size, is 80 miles squared.

4. WIKI PAGES

World of Warcraft, as of a couple of years ago, had over 99,800 Wiki pages. This made it the largest gaming-Wiki page on the internet, and it gives you an idea of how large their community is.

5. WORLD OF WARCRAFT CAN IMPROVE MENTAL AGILITY

North Carolina State University, in the past, conducted a study and they showed how playing this game improved the cognitive functions of older adults. The age group was between 60-77 years old, and I guess it is now time for senior citizens to play this game!
