For those looking for an outstanding service for online storage, Google Drive is the answer. Why is it so amazing? Well, the answer is both simple and complex. One could go on about the technicalities of this service, but to spare you the literature, here are just six.
1. GOOGLE DRIVE IS FAR MORE THAN JUST STORAGE
Unlike other competing online storage services (cough, DropBox, cough), Google Drive gives you far more than just storage space. Users are gifted the wealth of Google’s online apps as well. Create word documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more.
2. IT’S A GOOGLE PRODUCT
Perhaps this is just a cop out, but there are some serious advantages to your storage service being a Google product. For one, Google has a long history of making things that just work. Aside from that, when you’re in the Google club, you’re in the Google club for life. Users will access to all other Google services. This is especially useful as one can search for multiple services from one search bar.
3. GOOGLE CHROME EXTENSION
Building on the last point, having one Google product is cool, but it’s even better when you have multiple. They just all work so well together. Google Drive has a handy extension on Chrome that makes our difficult lives just that much easier. Dubbed “Save to Google” the extension makes it easier for web surfers to save anything they find to their drive with a click of a button.
4. SHARE WITH EASE
What’s the point of having all this data saved on your drive if you can’t share it with other people? Of course, there are some elements that aren’t meant to be shared, but that is for another place and another time. However, if you want to share that cute video of your cat eating pizza with your friend Gunther in Malaysia, it’s just a right-click away. Seriously, just right click, hit “share” and choose your victim.
5. VALUE
Google Drive knows what’s up about value. Say you have fifteen gigs of data. That will only count towards outside content. Anything related to Google, like those word documents, spreadsheets and presentations mentioned earlier, will be included. This is all free by the way. Fifteen gigs is a lot, but what about 100 gigs. For those number savvy, 100 is more than 15 but it will only cost you $5 dollars more. Good Guy Google’s got our back.
6. REVISION HISTORY
We all make mistakes, perhaps even more than we care to admit. Google recognizes that and they have added a feature to help us out. Revision history allows us to search through Google Drive for documents that have been saved. Since it’s online, autosaving is always occurring. This means no more lost documents midway through your senior thesis on 1980’s Chinese nuclear politics. Man, kids have it so easy these days, don’t they?
