Microsoft and it’s Xbox is popular enough amongst gamers, but their latest stunt brought sex starved gamers a real treat. The company was forced to apologize after throwing a raging party that featured scantily clad women and probably some video games. If it sounds like a good time, you’re right. However, some people out there hate fun so decided to crack down on the get-together.
MICROSOFT TRIES TO SEX UP XBOX
The Xbox party took place in San Francisco on Thursday night and all reports say it was one for the books. Amid the Game Developers Conference, and conveniently just hours after Microsoft held a networking lunch for women in the industry, the party popped off. Critics say Microsoft’s Xbox party was a bit hypocritical after focusing their SXSW conference on online harassment just a week earlier. Word got out rapidly as photos of the event showed some sex-related shenanigans. Scantily clad women floated amongst a sea of gamers and employees. The tech industry had been trying to be more inclusive of women, but this episode of sex appeal hardly supported that notion.
FEMALE GAMERS NOT HAPPY
Due to outrage by female gamers, Microsoft was forced to apologize. They stated that the party did not reflect upon the beliefs of Xbox and in no way was it consistent to their values. One female gamer from Melbourne, Australia reported several women in miniskirts and revealing tops. When asked why they were there, they said they were to sex up the event. Surely, it worked, but not at the pleasure of female gamers. The 31-year-old vented her frustration on Twitter, taking personal offense to the matter.
VIDEO GAMES NO LONGER FOR DUDES
The result of this sex party shows that video games are no longer just for dudes. Females want in on the fun, so the industry has to now shift their focus to a universal approach. Maybe this means more female friendly Xbox games. What that means, I’m not sure, but Microsoft sure seems concerned with changing their ways. Does this mean no more parties? Probably not, but one can expect toned down celebrations from the tech industry as more women enter the field.
