Space flight is probably pretty taxing on the body. Astronauts are said to rapidly age during a space mission. With bone deterioration and other physiological changes that those of us just don’t experience here on Earth. Going into space is risky. If you survive the launch and make it, astronauts still need to worry about space junk and getting enough rest. NASA, Russia, and other space agencies on the ISS need to patch a chipped window caused by space junk. A chipped window in space could cause some sleepless nights. That is why NASA wants to put their astronauts into a vegetative state. Is this a good idea?
NASA Will Invest Big on New Innovation
The annual NASA program that gives innovative researchers a chance to strut their science has led to some very cool new concepts. The program has chosen eight tech proposals to fund. Growing habitats and vegetative deep sleep chambers made the list. The deep sleep chambers and other concepts for astronauts will be in some way related to future Mars missions. The space agency noted that the new concepts could change the future of aerospace missions. This could surely make reaching and colonizing Mars a more attainable goal. Is Russia having their very own space initiative science fair?
Astronauts May Sleep All the Way to Mars
Among the eight concepts NASA has chosen for future projects is the deep sleep chamber for astronauts on Mars missions. The other cool space concepts include growable Mars habitats, a dual aircraft platform, and solar white coatings for cooling fuel tanks. The most innovative for astronauts would be the deep sleep chamber. This concept may have been mo
]vie inspired. In most space movies, the futuristic astronauts place themselves into a deep sleep chamber as they snooze away until they have reached their destination. This was in “Alien” I believe. The vegetative state astronauts would be in could be beneficial. It would be less boring, of course, since a mission to Mars is roughly eight months long. It could also slow or stop the physiological degeneration their bodies undergo in space.
New Space Concepts from Russia
Space and Mars concepts that NASA plans to invest in will take at least 10 years to develop. Leaving astronauts awake during long space transit, rather than in a vegetable like a coma. This gives Russia plenty of time to beat the U.S. space agency to the punch. Russia has been at the drawing board designing and making new innovative space and Mars plans of their own. Some not so inclusive. Rumors that Russia has designed a space station just for Russia have circulated. The not so international space station could be in orbit by 2025.
What new space concept would you like to see for the next Mars mission?
