You don’t have to be a crazy acid head to think that touching sound is cool. Just imagine what it’s like to feel the shape of music, generate your own visuals and more. It sounds like magic but thanks to the power of a new tech, it’s now a reality.
OTO TECH: FEEL THE SOUND
OTO comes from the Japanese word ot-no-katahci. In English, this translates to the shape of sounds. Hence, the people behind this new tech decided to name their product after the word. The idea behind OTO began at Berklee College of Music. There, the product’s creators realized there are limitations to two-dimensional interfaces on the market. Hence, they went out to create something new. The 3D paradigm that makes the relationship between form and sound into something physical.
HOW THIS TECH LETS YOU TOUCH SOUND
Each OTO controller has an IMU that talks to a host device via Bluetooth. The host computer then translates the raw data into a music-based output that users can experience. With OTO, you can play live instruments, synths, DJ, and even use your own digital audio workstations. From there, you’re on your way to touching music.
ALL LEVELS CAN USE NEW TECH THAT TOUCHES SOUND
OTO is ideal for experienced musicians and beginners alike. Whether you’re looking for a new way to win over your audience or looking to introduce a young child to the word of music. In addition, OTO has a variety of configurations to choose from. OTO is still in it’s beginning stages so expect to see further improvements in the future. Furthermore, they hope to partner with reputable manufacturers to bring high-quality and high-tech components to the market. The possibilities are seemingly endless here. It’s truly up to the musicians to craft their physical sound the way they want and that’s how music should always be.
