If evil Martians, dust storms, and general space dangers aren’t enough for future Mars colonists to worry about, now, there’s a thing called “space brain”.
RADIATION WILL DESTROY BRAIN ON MARS
We all know what our brain looks like on drugs but what does it look like on Mars? Apparently, not very good. Scientists are studying the effects of radiation in rodents which translate to a scary theory. Astronauts exposed to cosmic rays have some serious problems including severe dementia. The UC Irvine study continues to produce research regarding the horrible effects humans will encounter as they go further into deep space.
SCIENTISTS DETERMINE RADIATION ON MARS IS BAD FOR BRAIN
Scientists have known for a long time that radiation has a bad impact on neural tissue. For example, cancer patients with brain tumors get radiotherapy which produces severe damage. However, space radiation is a whole different beast. Scientists don’t really know what effect it has on the humans because there are different kinds of radiation. Furthermore, they’re delivered at different rates. Seeing as we’re all the way here on Earth and Mars is, well, it’s far, we can’t get an accurate test on the actual environment.
SHOULD WE AVOID MARS BECAUSE OF BRAIN DAMAGE?
While this info is certainly not the good kind, that doesn’t mean we should quit space travel altogether. Space is the final frontier. While we may not have the technology now, researchers are working on it. In fact, they are already developing a shield that will help human bodies defend against dangerous radiation. For the aspiring astronauts out there, fear not. Perhaps a few rodents are in pain now but that’s why the tests are done. Radiation is a threat, but it pales in comparison to evil Martians. Let’s get a team on that one.
