If you haven’t heard of Telegram yet, then you’re certainly a minority. The messaging service is quickly becoming the hottest messaging app in the entire world. Step aside WhatsApp. You now have some serious competition. While that much is clear, people are still wondering about one thing? How do these messaging apps make any money? Let’s delve into it.
TELEGRAM DOESN’T BELIEVE IN MONEY
It sounds crazy but some companies out there aren’t so concerned with making money. Yes, you read that right. The telegram says they only believe in providing a speedy and secure messaging app that is completely free for its users. While other companies always feel the need to destroy their original values with some financial gain, the CEO behind this app wants to keep it non-commercial.
TELEGRAM WAS NEVER ABOUT MAKING MONEY
Right from the start, Telegram was never about making money. No one built it to bring in revenue and they say it will never sell ads or accept any outside investment. Furthermore, it can not even be sold. Unlike other apps out there, this one is not collecting a user base so that they can someday charge them. Instead, they are simply building a messaging app for the people, by the people.
HOW DOES TELEGRAM SURVIVE?
Obviously, a popular messaging app like this doesn’t survive on its own. There has to be someone out there keeping everything afloat. If you guessed that, then you’re right.
Famous Russian investor Pavel Durov shares the same vision of the messaging app. Hence, he used his Digital Fortress fund to supply the company with a sizeable donation. for the time being, they have more than enough to exist. However, if they ever run out, they will invite their users to donate or start adding some non-essential options users can pay for.
So for now, just enjoy the free messages.
