We at ClapwayTV like to ask our celebrity athletes to provide our audience with some tips and guidance. It’s always interesting to see how their opinions differ from other athletes that are in similar positions.
- Falling is inevitable while rock climbing, for the beginners out there, how do you combat the fear of falling?
That’s something I’m actually still learning how to do. Falling still scares me, but it’s not the actual fall, it’s swinging back into the cliff. I’ll practice taking big whippers on steeper routes so I don’t swing back into the rock. The feeling of free falling makes my stomach flip, but it also gets kind of addicting…
- For our readers, what are three traits they should possess in order to be successful in life?
No matter how crazy your ideas or dreams are, go after them anyway. Look at me, I made a career out of climbing things. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. And if they do, have fun proving them wrong.
- Which 3 climbs do you feel fellow rock climbers need to experience before they die?
Ro Shampo 5.12a, Red River Gorge, KY
Porkchop b V3, Red Rocks, NV
Blue’s Riff 5.11c, Tuolumne Meadows, CA
- For the inexperienced, how do you ask someone out on a date?
Oh man, it’s been a while… I’d say ask them to go hang out at the beach. I think formal first dates to sit somewhere and have coffee or food get super awkward, I’d rather go somewhere to walk around, keep it casual.
This part of the interview is always my favorite. Words of wisdom from someone who’s worked so hard to get to where she is today. It can’t be easy climbing for a living, good luck to you Alex!
