Travel To Mars
The VASIMR Spaceship Engine or Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket is the first of its kind that can take people to Mars in just 39 days, compared to 270 days that it would take with a regular spaceship. It is made by Ad Astra Rocket Company and, if all goes well, should definitely shake up the space travel industry.
VASIMR Spaceship Engine Technology
The VASIMR Spaceship Engine as seen at Ad Astra Rocket uses unique technology in order to reach the high speeds that are necessary to take people to Mars in a very short period of time. It uses a plasma-based propulsion system along with an electric power source in order to fuel said plasma. By fueling the plasma in the right direction, it will propel the engine in that direction as it’s being ejected from the ship.
This mission is part of Ad Astra Rocket Company’s idea to help with the upgrading of current spaceship technology so that deep space missions in the future would not take nearly as long if there were to be humans sent out to different planets.
Speeding up Space Travel
The VASIMR Spaceship Engine greatly helps to increase the speed at which astronauts can be sent into space. In order to help with the investigation and study of Mars, the VASIMR can easily carry them to the red planet in a much shorter period of time than normal ships. The key is plasma. Plasma is a form of nuclear power and is believed to be the most efficient way to greatly increase speeds without having other functions or the size of the ship suffer from it.
VASIMR Space Engine, as seen at NASA, uses radio waves in combination with the plasma. The radio waves actually heat up the propellant which then helps to project the plasma out of the ship and causes it to push the ship forward. It is definitely still in the works right now, but there is hope that there will be a test flight by its first flight unit, VF-200-1, very soon.

Because the ship requires large amounts of power and energy to run, it is currently still a topic of discussion how they will fuel the ship’s vast need for this treasured commodity in space.
The current option that is readily available is to use solar panels which can generate energy through the power of the Sun while in space. This would definitely save costs on having to come up with man-made energy sources and would be much easier to implement onto the ship since solar panels are now a well-known and popular form of energy production.
Once everything with the VASIMR Spaceship Engine is completed, there could very well be astronauts heading to Mars in the future. With the cooperation of great organizations such as NASA and the Ad Astra Rocket Company, anything is possible in this world of deep space exploration.
