Where Inspiration Is Found

At times I feel blocked. I get caught up in a hundred things and stop doing what I enjoy the most because I don’t feel like it. Between studying for finals, Mother’s day, photo-hunting, along with many other things, I’ve been blocked for the past few weeks.

So, in need of a little inspiration, I did something I hadn’t done in quite a while: bought a canvas and acrylics. I started out a painting.

As hours flew past me while I worked on my new project I started asking myself questions. Why hadn’t I just done the thing? Was it lack of inspiration of plain laziness? Had it really been necessary to buy all this? Either way, I kept on painting.

Upon finishing my little masterpiece I noticed I still had nothing. No inspiration what-so-ever. It suddenly struck me that even though I had worked hard on it, it hadn’t had an effect on me. I began going on walks; long walks without a final destination. Many sunsets passed as I appreciated life’s canvas being re-painted in a new, beautiful way each day. That way, I reminded myself what I keep telling others: in nature, everything is found; every answer to ever question and form of beauty ever created.

Going outside, breathing in fresh air, keeps proving liberating and helpful in many ways. We all know this, everyone knows it. But we keep hiding out in our rooms, only ever leaving the house when it is solely necessary.

One thing I now understand is that I’ve been missing way too many amazing things to decide not to explore a little more. And also, now I know long walks help out a lot more than searching #inspiration.
