Here’s a fun idea: your smart phone screen is dirtier than your toilet
Apparently, on any part of your phone, there are roughly 25,000 germs swarming together, and you touch them every day.
Why Are Phones So Dirty?
This isn’t a mystery. You use your phone for everything, and while you (hopefully) wash your hands once in while, when was the last time you disinfected your smart phone?
Even after a good hand wash, your hands are the dirtiest part of your body.Your phone is usually stored in your pocket or purse, kept warm and moist by body heat, and after touching it with your fingers every ten seconds, you’re bound to leave more than a thumb print.
It Goes Both Ways
You touch your phone, your phone touches you. Even after you washed your hands there is a multitude of bacteria squirming around. And studies have shown that when you transfer bacteria on your phone, and it to you. And since you use it every day, and it is close to your face, maybe you should see what the screen of your smartphone carries.
Conjunctivitis
Have you ever woken up and felt your eyes crusted together? Yeah, that’s pink eye. Caused mostly by bacteria getting in your eye, conjunctivitis is when the membrane of your eye becomes enflamed and infected. Viral pink eye can be very contagious, and with this bacteria on your smartphone, don’t rub your tired eyes after sending yet another work email.
Poop
Your poop, other people’s poop, animal poop: it’s all found on the screen of your smart phone. The bacteria found in poop is a huge variety, and no two swabs will show the same numbers. But what is important to know is that fecal matter on your phone can contain E. coli, and that can make you sick, or even cause death. Just remember that not all strands of E. coli are dangerous.
Staph
Staphylococcus aureus, staph infections, cause skin rashes and sometimes boils. Just under half of mobile phones have the infectious bacteria, but the two groups of staph can cause a variety of ailments. Group A is linked to something as common as strep throat, or as serious as toxic shock syndrome, and Group B can cause blood infections. This bacteria on your smartphone may one of the least likely to get you sick
But the Most Common Is…
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
This pesky germ is responsible for most of your skin rashes and other inflammations. It can be harmful if it grows inside important organs, like your lungs, but most likely that weird irritation on your face is from talking on your phone. Pseudomonas aeruginosa lives in warm, damp places, just like your phone does.
So, next time you make a phone call or text with your crush, maybe you should think about disinfecting your screen first.
