While the BMW i8 gets an upgrade, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has revealed that a series of BMW’s M3 and M4 cars have a slip joint in the driveshaft hasn’t been filled with grease. This has caused a recall of 42 cars. Among these are 2015-2016 M3 Sedans that were manufactured between May 30 and September 2nd of this year; 2016 M4 coupes made between July 3 and September 11 and M4 convertibles made between May 29 and August 4.
The BMW M3 and M4 Empty Slip Joint Is Likely To Fail
BMW is encouraging all car owners that fit these dates to take their cars take them out of the road as soon as physically possible. No injuries have been reported related to the fault. BMW will start officially recalling the cars to dealerships on January 8, 2016. Technicians will take a look at the cars and replace slip joints as necessary at no cost to the drivers.
In Other News, Rinspeed Unveils BMW i8 That Has A Drone Built In
In a bizarre turn of events, Rinspeed has added a drone to one of the most elegant and luxurious cars in BMW’s lineup. The BMW i8, which comes with 357 horsepower and a 1.7kWh lithium-ion battery surely wasn’t enough for Rinspeed, nor was its 1.5L 3-cylinder engine. So they decided to take it to the next level.
The new model is called the Σtos, and it’s completely based off of BMW’s i8. The model will make its debut at the Consumer Electronics show in a few weeks, and it features a built-in drone. The DJI Inspire One drone sits in the back of the car for absolutely no reason.
Otherwise, the Σtos Also Features Autonomous Driving
The Σtos has a retractable steering wheel and two 21.5″ curved ultra HD screens. The necessity of the screens isn’t specified either, but it will likely be revealed once the car is unveiled.
Will Cars Come With Drones in the Future?
This news about a customized BMW i8 might kickstart a whole new trend. As drones get more popular and more widespread, it’s possible that car makers start incorporating them into their vehicles. Why exactly one would need a drone is the real question here, but as far as luxury cars go there isn’t a lot of space for why.
The cars of the future will be filled with things that become necessities, and it’s possible that the drone becomes an everyday necessity some day. It would surely be a commodity to many, and it can make many things much easier.
Drones May Not Have Access to A Lot of Air Space
Drones are already illegal in many spaces, like airports and other public areas. Some countries have banned them altogether since they pose a security risk to many. However, as drones become registered and monitored by authorities, it’s perfectly possible that we’ll find drones parked at all kinds of places.
We may one day find a drone sitting on the roofs of our cars, or by our herb garden at home. We can expect to see them even outside our bedroom windows. What Rinspeed is getting at is probably not that far-fetched from what we’ll come to see every day.
Christmas Will Be Witness to the Rise of Drones and Hoverboards
It will all likely start as of this Christmas, as hoverboards, drones and other high-tech gadgets become the trendiest gadgets of the time. Authorities will naturally start to regulate them. They actually have already, but this is the beginning of a new era for toys and gadgets, and it’s going to be a great one. The world best stay tuned to what will next come out of Silicon Valley.
