Ebola is one of the deadliest viruses on the planet. As of right now, according to the National Institutes of Health, the mortality rate of Ebola is 60 percent. This is a full 30 percent lower than it was in the past. However, HIV and three other viruses, are actually worse than Ebola.

VIRUS 1: RABIES

Although rabies is not prominent in the United States, only killing two people per year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is in Africa and Asia. In both of those countries, according to the WHO, around 55,000 people die every year due to rabies. Also, rabies has one of the highest fatality rates of any disease.

VIRUS 2: HIV

HIV is a disease that is seen way too frequently. According to the WHO, around 1.6 million people worldwide died of HIV in 2012. That is a truly scary number, but the good news is it is declining. However, that does not stop it from being more deadly than Ebola.

VIRUS 3: INFLUENZA

Most people are not too worried about dying from the flu. It is usually an illness that people do not want, but one that they do not necessarily fear either. Well, the problem is more people die from the flu than you are probably aware of. The CDC estimates that there are anywhere from 3,000 to 49,000 people who die from the flu annually.

VIRUS 4: MOSQUITO-BORNE VIRUSES

Did you know that mosquitoes are more than just an annoying bug that sucks your blood? According to the WHO and CDC, around 50,000 people die worldwide when an infected mosquito bites them. So, next time you get bit by one be sure that you have not developed a disease. The bad news is, according to the CDC, around 40 percent of the world’s population are at risk of this disease.
