Even if you are not an avid car lover, you are probably aware that the Ford Mustang exists. It is a very popular model, but there are some facts about it that you might have been unaware of.
FACT 1: THE SPEED
When the Ford Mustang was first created, the main purpose was to beat the Chevy Corvair. Not in terms of sales or dominance, but in terms of speed. However, when the company tested their prototype it was just a little slower than the Formula 1 cars were back in the day.
FACT 2: SMU IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE NAME
Back when the Ford Mustang was being made, the SMU Mustangs were battling the Michigan Wolverines. In that game, back in 1963, SMU lost. However, the genius behind the Mustang told them that due to their amazing effort, he was going to name his Ford car after them. However, this is not true because a photo of the car, which was taken before the game, proved that the name “Mustang” was already set in stone.
FACT 3: THE ASPEN STATION WAGON
Early on in its development, there were talks on creating a station wagon out of a Ford Mustang. There has been speculation in the past that two of these actually exist, and once in a blue moon people have actually spotted one!
FACT 4: OVAL HEADLIGHTS
Can you imagine a Ford Mustang with oval headlights? Well, that almost came to fruition, but ultimately the company decided not to do this. All we can say is thank you, Ford!
FACT 5: FOG LIGHTS
On some of the early versions of the Shelby Mustangs, there were radical looking fog lights. The issue, however, is that these lights were causing the engine to overheat. They were taking up too much space in the front of the radiator, and thus, the engine would overheat.
