Heavy metal and disco. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Pizza and the gym. What do all these have in common? Well, they are all clashing ideas that will never find peaceful harmony together. For a long time, video games and a health would fit into this category. Consoles like the PS4 and Xbox are renowned for their technological innovation, but let’s be realistic. They are not breaking any ground in terms of physical health. The Nintendo Wii however, is a beacon of light in an otherwise dull industry when it comes to helping people get healthy.

PS4 HELPS BURN BRAIN CELLS WHILE NINTENDO Wii HELPS BURN VICTIMS

There is an explanation for that title, and it really isn’t as bad as it sounds. A recent study by Australian researchers has shown that the Nintendo Wii can reduce pain for burn victims. Also, PS4 doesn’t necessarily kill brain cells, but playing it too much can have some negative side effects. On that note, let us look into the magic of the Nintendo Wii.

NINTENDO’S HEALING SECRET

Apparently, bodily movement, or in layman’s terms “exercise” is good for the body. No, there is not something special about the Wii that helps burn victims, but it does get them to move. Burn victims are prone to nerve damage, therefore causing some issues with their body functions. By having the patients participate in such games like boxing, yoga, tennis and others, they are able to visualize a direct response to their actions. In a way, it is retraining the nerves with a series of positive and negative feedback.

XBOX AIMS TO FOLLOW SUIT

While not as scientifically proven as it’s competitor, Xbox has come up with a similar program that intends to get gamers on their feet. The Xbox Kinect forces gamers to stand and participate in a serious of physical challenges. It has been proven to burn calories, increase stamina, improve a wide range of motions and in general keep frequent users fit. It hasn’t done much in terms of helping burn victims, but the very same Australian researchers who studied the Wii are looking into the Xbox for future medical benefits.
