With Hurricane Matthew quickly approaching the east coast, residents are doing all they can to prepare for the event. In times like these, people usually board up windows and stock up on milk and bread. However, rarely do they think about their cell phone service. Luckily, T-Mobile and Sprint are here to help.
T-MOBILE AND SPRINT PREPARE THEIR CUSTOMERS
Hurricanes have the potential to disconnect people from friends and family. T-Mobile hopes to prevent this. Already, the company is preparing backup generators called Call-on-Wheels (COW) and various command centers in the areas of impact. In addition, their Network Operations Center (NOCs) will closely observe network traffic and further coordinate any response.
T-MOBILE AND SPRINT KEEP LOVED ONES TOGETHER
According to T-Mobile and Sprint, there are certain steps one can take to stay connected to loved ones during a storm. For one, they can make sure their phone is fully charged before the storm hits. Furthermore, they should use the phone’s power save mode to conserve battery life. Text messages are better than calling in these situations as they require fewer network resources. Keep calls, keep your phone dry and update and emergency contacts for smooth sailing during the storm.
SPRINT ONE UPS T-MOBILE
Even in a hurricane, Sprint wants to beat the competition. Hence, they are waiving fees in countries in the path of Hurricane Matthew. All international calls and text charges for customers in the U.S. and surrounding countries in the path of Matthew will get free service. President and CEO of the company said that they just want to help their customers stay in touch with loved ones. The free service is effective today through 10/7. After that, regular service will resume in the U.S., Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica and Turks and Caicos. Perhaps mobile carriers have a soul after all.
