We all know the earth is warming by the day but some experts believe Bitcoin is speeding up the process. Allegedly, the popular cryptocurrency uses as much electricity as the entire country of Denmark. Furthermore, environmental reports state that if the currency’s growth continues on its current path, mining operations will use as much energy as the entire United States of America in only 18 months time. Sounds bad right? Well, it’s about to get even worse.

By 2020, Bitcoin will use as much energy as the world currently uses today. What does this mean for planet Earth? Well, it’s not good. Currently, world leaders are working hard to move past fossil fuel and adapt to more sustainable energy sources. However, with the added pressure put on by cryptocurrency, this might cause them to abandon these goals entirely. Simply meeting the world’s energy needs will become a challenge our planet cannot deal with. This is all due to the complex process of crypto mining. Unless larger scale, sustainable mining farms start becoming a common sight, planet Earth has a big dilemma on our hands. But can UFO’s really help?

It’s unlikely that UFO’s will fly down within the next few years and give us the gift of some alien technology. Sorry sci-fi nerds but get that idea out of your head. But here is one idea you can put in your head. We don’t need aliens. We have a whole planet of intelligent people right here and they have the potential to create something inspiring. Blockchain technology might be our biggest enemy in terms of energy usage but it’s also our best resource.
