Swedish YouTube Star Earns $7 Million in One Year

Swedish 25 year old Felix Kjellberg is probably one of the most famous YouTube stars of the moment. He has over 37 million followers, which is more than Taylor Swift and One Direction. In July 2014 the channel surpassed Rihanna’s VEVO account and became the most viewed channel of all time.

He is known as “PewDiePie” on the video-sharing website and regularly posts videos of him commenting to video games he plays.
In an interview he described his activity as “commenting unpopular and bad video games and turning it into comedy.”
He is also in a relationship with Italian YouTube personality Marzia Bisognin, better known online as “CutiePieMarzia”.

By the end of last year, it was reported that Kjellberg earned as much as $7 million in just one year. YouTube is a very profitable site for it’s biggest online stars mainly thanks to advertisements placed around their videos.

However, many criticized the amount of money he makes by just “sitting on his chair and commenting on video games.”

The Youtuber, however, replied to all criticisms through a Reddit post and a video he uploaded last Tuesday called “Let’s Talk About Money,” which received 1.6 million views in just under 24 hours.

When addressing the criticisms, the Swedish gamer said: “”Whenever it comes out how much I made a certain year, people just get so shocked. A lot of people are also very, very angry. They think I just sit on my ass all day and yell at the screen over here. Which is true. But there’s so much more to it than that.”

”Money does not make you happy”

He also emphasised that he spent far more money on charities than on himself since his career escalated.

In the video, he also described how during his job selling hot dogs he was the happiest he’d ever been and that “although money matter to everyone, it does not make you happy.”
