Marshall Smartphone Announced for Audiophiles

Marshall London Available For Users In August

If you’re a big music fan, chances are you’ve seen a Marshall logo in your time. They are one of the most recognizable audio equipment makers in the market, and their iconic Marshall logo can be found on amps at any given concert. Now, they’re looking to break even further into the technological industry, and they may have figured out a way: a Marshall smartphone. Today they announced this Marshall smartphone, which will be referred to as the London, gave it an official release date, and a tentative price. The Marshall London will cost $499, which translates to £399 in Europe, and will be available to ship to consumers on August 21.

Marshall Not Going Out of Its Way to Appeal To Tech Enthusiasts

They would need to do quite a bit to make a Marshall smartphone a preeminent phone in the industry, but it doesn’t seem like Marshall has any intentions of the London being that big a deal, frankly. Utilizing Android’s Lollipop 5, the London’s display is 4.7 inches and 720p, as opposed to the higher quality 1080p that contemporary smartphones are more frequently using. The Marshall smartphone is also powered by a Snapdragon 410 CPU, which is nowhere near as powerful as other phones are using at the moment. It contains just 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, and a battery with just a mid-range 2500 mAh capacity. The specs on this Marshall smartphone beckons the question: why would an upcoming smartphone go out of its way to not have impressive stats?

Making a Phone Just For Audiophiles

Seemingly Marshall didn’t give too much credence to the specs of their phone because they want this Marshall smartphone to be for the music aficionados above all else. The London will be using a Wolfman WM8281 sound processor, so expect the Marshall smartphone to be ahead of the pack when it comes to listening to your MP3s and FLAC files. And for aspiring DJs that also happen to be fans of Marshall, there will be a DJ app that allows you to mix your tracks. Despite Marshall wanting to break into the smartphone game, they’re still doing it by appealing to their fan base above all else, making a phone that appeals not just directly, but almost exclusively to the biggest music fans
