Already having services that let users compare prices for flights, hotels, and even car insurance, recent activity in a certain professional field might hint at Google branching out into even more new fields.
Speculation of Google Branching Out
Many believe that a new action undertaken by the multinational company infers at Google branching out into home services. Google has just hired 20 employees from the company Homejoy, a company that began by matching house cleaners with homeowners. While there is no confirmation on the fact of google branching out into a new field, Homejoy recently announced that it will be shutting down for good at the end of this July.
What is Homejoy?
Homejoy was a startup company created in 2012 with the intent to make it easier for people to find verified house cleaners and schedule appointments. It later began to set up appointments for other household services like carpet cleaning and general handyman repairs. Eventually, it was met with competition by several others site including Handy, TaskRabbit, and most recently, even Amazon.
Their closing at the end of the month is attributed to lack of funding for the site along with a few complaints from the cleaners. Though, this opportunity may lead to Google branching out into the home services field since there will soon be an empty spot.
What this means for Google
The employees that Google picked up from Homejoy were mostly part of the product and engineering team. These people could help Google branching out into this field be even more successful due to their high levels of expertise on the matter. Google previously stated how they were interested in creating a service that connected various workers with homeowners. While there is no official confirmation of this, many believe that this is Google opening up to household services sooner rather than later.
Being the dominant search engine used, Google will likely rise through the ranks of household services to become one of, if not the biggest company that pairs household service workers with homeowners. It will be interesting to see how Google goes about this particular endeavor. However it is implemented, it is sure to help people out.
