In an effort to be more reactive and to minimize damage control, Mazda and Volkswagen have been forced to recall more than 600,000 vehicles due to an air bag and steering loss issue.
MAZDA HAS RECALLED OVER 190,000 UNITS OF THE CX-9
Mazda’s recall involves more that 190,000 units of the CX-9, its largest sports utility vehicle, SUV, to fix certain suspension parts within the vehicle that are apparently rusting and coming apart, leading to a loss of steering power. According to reports, the front ball joints of the CX-9’s are accumulating rust because of a water leakage, which ultimately becomes loose and separated from the suspension system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, started thoroughly investigating the problem after 16 different complaints came in from vehicle owners. Mazda said that they first noticed this problem back May 2012 and tried to address the issue in their factories by January 2014. However, things apparently didn’t go according to their plans. The vehicles that are affected are between the model years ranging from 2007 to 2014. Owners of the affected vehicles have been asked to take back their faulty CX-9s to their dealers and have the defective suspension parts replaced.
VOLKSWAGEN HAS TO RECALL OVER 420,000 VEHICLES
Volkswagen has faced even bigger challenges as they have been forced to recall more than 420,000 vehicles in the United states, due to an issue that prevents the front air bags from deploying in the case of a car accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the crash debris are apparently ripping through the cables that power the front air bags. This is leading to a deployment failure in an accident. The NHTSA has received nine complaints so far from car owners. However, according to the NHTSA, there haven’t been any injuries or accidents reported so far from the air bag issue.
MULTIPLE VOLKSWAGEN MODELS ARE UNDER A RECALL
The models that have been recalled by Volkswagen are the CC, Jetta, Passat and the Tiguran, with the model years from 2010 to 2014. The Jetta and Eos from 2010 to 2013, the Golf and GTI from 2012 to 2014, and the Jetta SportWagen from 2011 to 2013 have also been recalled. In an official statement from Volkswagen, they said that the fix is currently under development and all of the affected vehicle owners will be notified when the fix is ready for deployment.
