Washington-based company Zerodium may have found the best way to ensure foolproof status on new softwares. For the hefty prize of 1 million dollars, the company gave hackers from around the globe the opportunity to hack into the iOS 9 in a test to research software vulnerability.
Apple’s iOS is undeniably one of the most difficult platforms to break through, but Zerodium was able to verify an undetectable security hole in the software at the hands of a team that has not been revealed just yet. Having successfully gotten the iOS 9 hacked, Zerodium congratulated the winning team via email, and added that vulnerabilities found may be reported back to Apple. The contest, which began in September, gave a very formidable challenge; iOS is technically impossible to infect with malware and remain untraceable.
With the iOS 9 hacked, there was discussion for a partial reward for a second team that made a partial jail break to the operating system. Other competitors propose that this is a prize money contest to show that people, even entire states, are willing to pay that and even more for software vulnerability research. With the iOS 9 hacked, it opens the eyes and ears of not only Apple, who had no comment on the announcement, but also Apple users. Trust between companies is extremely important, and this may just falter slightly now that a team was able to use Chrome, Safari and a few apps to create an entire hole in security and leaving no traces.
