Speculation about the upcoming iPhone 7 is buzzing all over the web, but Google’s Project Ara could blow the latest from Apple straight out of the park. Google’s Ara Smartphones and Apple’s iPhone 7 are rumored to be released in 2016, but the clear different in specs puts them in very different sides of the market.
Rumors circulating the iPhone 7 assume that the phone will be closer in size to the iPhone 6/6s in size, though it’s expected to look very different from the past models and to be thinner than ever. Screen resolution improvements are possible since Apple failed to deliver its promise of mind-blowing HD in the iPhone 6 series, along with harder screen material. The iPhone 7 is also rumored to come with the ability to charge wirelessly.
However, Google’s Project Ara could put a serious hole into Apple’s profit. The initiative takes a build-it-yourself approach to smartphones, where Google provides a simple grey phone to users and they design everything else. The project, done in collaboration with Motorola, will allow users to turn phone parts into building blocks, and they can make their own smartphones according to their preference. Motorola, who also makes most parts for the iPhone, will combine with Google to provide parts like speakers in varying sizes and levels, medical devices, receipt printers, laser pointers, night vision sensors and even game controller buttons that can be slid in or out of the basic mold. The Project Ara smartphones are set to even be able to swap parts and keep the phone on.
All in all, this promising project will be coming out neck and neck with the iPhone 7, and Apple may finally be dethroned from being one of the top selling phone companies in America.
