After a hacker attack, Swedbank’s website is unaccessible to Swedbank clients. The attack has prevented bankers from carrying out online transactions and contacting the bank through the internet, though mobile apps and payments are still in full function. This is the second cyber attack the Swedish bank has faced, the first one having been in October.
The company says it is likely not the last one they will suffer, and that it was too early to tell when exactly the website would be working again. The website has not been affected for Baltic countries, but this could greatly affect Swedbank clients.
Two of the safest online banks in the world are GoBank and Ally, and Swedbank clients may choose to swap over to either one for online banking. GoBank was introduced in 2013 as a brand of Green Dot Bank. They are completely fee-free, with service fees at $8.95. They offer free photo deposits, automatic payments and transfers. Ally Bank launched in 2009, and they have no service fees, no minimum balance requirements and reimburse all ATM fees. Their interest rates are at up to 0.6% for checking deposits and 0.99% on savings, which is three more times more interest than most online banking checking accounts, which could be an attractive offer for Swedbank clients.
