Most messaging apps are kept strictly in private for a variety of reasons. Why would Whatsapp introduce a feature that lets Google Drive back up their chats? Unless people are having important business discussions on WhatsApp chat, WhatsApp backups on Google Drive are just dangerous and useless.
This is WhatsApp’s second attempt at implementing Google Drive onto the app (the first time, it didn’t even get past beta), and it can back up pictures, voice messages and videos. Though this might sound enticing to some, it’s only a way of collecting potentially incriminating evidence for others. If your phone has limited memory space, then you could turn to the Google Drive Whatsapp backup, but people would have to be very careful with what they choose to back up there.
If you’re one of those people to opt for ‘Never’ when WhatsApp asks about when and how to back up your chats, then you’d best be hitting that button. Having the capability of backing up to Google Drive might be useful for student chat groups on the app or family chat groups, but otherwise, Google Drive WhatsApp backups are just a bad idea that will hopefully crash and burn just like it did the first time around.
