Last week, Huawei debuted the fastest charging batteries in the market in Japan. The lithium-ion batteries charge up to 10x faster than regular phone batteries, and these can get Huawei phones to 50% capacity in five minutes.
Fastest Charging Batteries Revealed at 56th Battery Symposium in Nagoya
Huawei presented two videos of their two fast-charging powerpacks. The first has a 600mAh capacity and can charge to 68% in two minutes. The second battery, with a 3,000mAh battery, charges to 48% in five minutes.
These batteries, built by Watt Lab, allow for an increased charging rate without risking the density or the long term battery life, and bring fresh innovation to the smartphone world. On this new technology, Huawei states that it is confident in bringing a new trend to smartphones, electric cars and wearable electronics, as well as mobile power supplies. Their hope is to bring technology that can charge batteries to full power in the same span of time that it takes the average citizen to grab a cup of coffee.
Huawei Didn’t Decide on A Date, and The Project is Still Young
There’s still no word on when these batteries will come to the mainstream market, though there are already competitors on the rise. The most particular one is Quick Charge 3, a battery charger out of Qualcomm that can take a battery from zero to 80% in 35 minutes. Qualcomm is set to debut this in their upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor.
