The latest X-Men spinoff film has gotten delayed as far as late 2017, and X-Men fans are extremely disappointed. Gambit, which was originally scheduled for an October 2016 release, hasn’t even started filming yet.
Gambit Would Have Been One of Three X-Men Films Out of Fox
The film, which is to be directed by Doug Liman, is to start shooting in the spring of 2016 so a same year release date would be technically impossible. X-Men fans can expect a theatrical release for early to mid 2017. Gambit’s script was written by Joshua Zetzumer, and after the departure of Rupert Wyatt as director in September, the film was in a sort of cinematic limbo.
X-Men fans are particularly hyped about the upcoming films in the X-Men universe, particularly with Gambit and the upcoming Deadpool adaptation, so the community, as well as Marvel fans, can only hope for smooth sailing from here on out.
Meanwhile, Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse Are Hitting Theatres in 2016
Deadpool, which features the famous Marvel anti-hero and stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, is set to come out February 12, 2016 after juggling around scripts, producers and directors for a few years.
On the other hand, X-Men: Apocalypse has an expected release date of May 27, 2016 in the US, and it stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and the rest of the cast in the fresher X-Men series. It also stars Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner and American Horror Story’s Evan Peters.
