Microsoft OneDrive Still Has More Free Storage Than Apple iCloud

OneDrive

As it turns out, Microsoft will not be dropping their OneDrive free storage amount. Previously, they stated that they were going to only allow their users 5 GB of free storage. This is exactly the amount that Apple gives its iCloud users. However, OneDrive will end up keeping its 15 GB of free storage, but with a catch.

MICROSOFT ONEDRIVE WILL STAY AT 15 GB OF FREE STORAGE

The company stated that they are indeed going to allow their users to keep 15 GB of free storage for OneDrive. However, they say that this offer must be manually opted into. If users are unaware of this deal, then, unfortunately, they will not be able to take advantage of it. However, as mentioned earlier, there is a catch to all of this. When a user signs up for this offer, they will also be signing up to receive promotional emails. So, while it was good that Microsoft ending up staying with 15 GB, these promotions from them could end up becoming a hassle. Why couldn’t you have just left it alone Microsoft?

APPLE ICLOUD HAS ONLY 5 GB OF FREE STORAGE

Apple’s version of the OneDrive, the iCloud, still only has 5 GB of free storage available for their users. Just like OneDrive, if users want more storage than that they will have to purchase it. Both companies offer similar gigabyte packages to purchase. However, for the people who know they will not use much space, this amount of free storage should last them a little while. 5 GB is not a ton of space, but it should last a good amount for casual users. However, 15 GB is triple that and would accommodate casual users with more than enough. However, are the promotional emails you will receive from OneDrive worth it?

DOES ONEDRIVE HOLD THE ADVANTAGE OF FREE STORAGE OVER ICLOUD NOW?

After this news, the question is now if OneDrive holds the advantage over iCloud when it comes to free storage. Before this, I would have said no doubt about it because Microsoft offered 15 GB, and Apple allowed 5 GB. Now, Microsoft still is offering this amount, but now they are going to be spamming users OneDrive. Does this make it worth it? Well, in short I do not think so. Spam is one of the most annoying aspects to deal with on the internet. Now, I believe that Apple holds the advantage with free storage.
