Today I would like to take a look at two vehicles that both look excellent. First up is the Mazda CX 5 and the company just recently added a few new features to it. This model will start at $21,795 and will be available in January of next year. The other heavyweight is the Nissan Titan XD. This vehicle will be available this week and starts at $41,485. How do these two vehicles compare?
THE MAZDA CX 5 RECEIVES ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Before we begin, it should be noted that the Mazda CX 5 has received additional features. The backup camera will now be available for all models. Also, navigation is now a standard feature for the Touring and Grand Touring trims.
THE MAZDA CX 5 VS THE NISSAN TITAN XD: INTERIOR
The first category at hand for these two vehicles is their interior. The Nissan Titan XD comes equipped with a hands-free text messaging assistant as well as a hands-free Bluetooth Phone System. This truck also features power windows and a key-less, Push Button ignition. There are also two 12-volt DC power outlets on the dashboard. The Mazda CX 5 has most of the same features available. This model also has a hands-free Bluetooth Phone System. A Push Button ignition is also present but also has an answerback feature. Power windows and 12-volt power outlets are also present in the Mazda CX 5. The first category winner is actually neither of them. The interiors of these cars are so identical that they will tie in this category.
THE MAZDA CX 5 VS. THE NISSAN TITAN XD: EXTERIOR
Now let’s move on to the exterior of both of these models. The Nissan Titan XD, for the starting trim, comes equipped with 17” x 7.5” styled steel wheels. This truck has black bumpers, a black front grille, and dual manual black outside mirrors. The Nissan Titan XD comes with overhead LED cargo bed lights as well as a dampened assist locking tailgate. The Mazda CX 5 starting trim comes with 17” aluminum alloy wheels. Clear lens halogen headlights, dual-powered side mirrors with turn signal lamps, and a rear roof spoiler are also featured with the Mazda CX 5. The exterior of both of these vehicles is really close. I will give a close edge to the Nissan Titan XD for the way it uses its tailgate. The Nissan Titan XD is ahead one to nothing.
THE MAZDA CX 5 VS. THE NISSAN TITAN XD: ENGINE
The third category we will focus on is the engine. The Nissan Titan XD comes with a 5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8. This engine has 390 horsepower at 5,800 rpm’s. The torque on this engine is 401 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm’s. The estimated combined fuel economy is 22-23 mpg’s. The Mazda CX 5 has an SKYACTIV-G 2L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with VVT. The horsepower for this engine is 155 at 6,000 rpm’s. The torque is 150 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm’s. The estimated combined fuel economy of the Mazda CX 5 is 30.5 mpg’s. Whether or not you prefer fuel economy or power will decide which engine you like better. I prefer fuel economy, so I will have the winner be the Mazda CX 5. This means that the two models are tied at one.
THE MAZDA CX 5 VS. THE NISSAN TITAN XD: SAFETY AND SECURITY
It all comes down to safety and security. The Nissan Titan XD comes with highly integrated airbag technology from the roof, front, and sides. Vehicle Dynamic Control and Active Brake Limited Slip technology are present in the Titan XD. There is also an integrated Vehicle Security System as well as the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System. The Mazda CX 5 also has integrated airbag technology from the front and side. An anti-lock Brake System and Brake Assist technology will be present as well. The security of the Mazda CX 5 features an engine immobilizer antitheft system as well as a keyless remote panic button. To be honest, both of these models have great security and safety. I know this is a shortcut, but I can not say one is better than the other.
THE MAZDA CX 5 VS. THE NISSAN TITAN XD: THE VERDICT
So there you have it, it is a tie! I know, ties are no fun, but the Mazda CX 5 and the Nissan Titan XD are both very similar. Either one would be a great buy if anyone was interested.
