A link has been discovered that crashes Safari overheats the Apple iPhone and will force it to reboot. The link is crashsafari.com, and it will take over the smartphone’s memory through a string of lengthening characters.
The Key to Destroying an iPhone, iPad, Macbook or Android Device
This link even slows down Chrome on Android devices, MacBooks and Windows PCs. It was also proven to crash on Firefox. The only fix for this nasty bug is to reboot the devices entirely.
Users are discouraged from clicking or typing in this URL, but there is also a chance that the tricksters that created the domain use link shortening servers to hide the very obvious malicious website. The tricksters behind this even have their own Twitter account, called @crashsafari. Their bio reads ‘what a better way to prank someone than crash their device’. As of January 25th, the link has been clicked more than 100,000 times. Some people are clicking out of curiosity, but this is obviously not the best idea.
This May Have Been Inspired By The Messenger ‘Effective Power’ Bug
Just eight months ago Apple got rid of a bug that crashed the iPad, iPhone and MacBooks by inputting specific symbols. The only way to fix it was also to reboot the device, as this blocked a person from using Messages altogether. The tricksters probably found a way to use a similar bug to their advantage.
Apple hasn’t made any announcements regarding a fix to this issue, and it might take a while before it happens. For now, people are encouraged to be very careful about what they click.
AppleĀ Is Supposed to Be The Safest Platform
The Apple platform as a whole is considered to be the safest. There are entire contests designed around hacking devices like the Apple iPhone. Most recently, entire guidebooks have been released on how to hack through Macbook’s Gatekeeper.
The truth is, Apple is not perfect. It’s definitely safer than Windows or Google’s platforms, but it’s not 100% foolproof. Apple is continuously upgrading their platform to be impenetrable, joining hands with cybernetic geniuses to help build a stronger base for their devices.
#crashsafari also works on PC and Android.
