Like Facebook, Amazon is trying to get into every crevice of our lives. Just being a convenient way to shop wasn’t enough. They have to offer VR, cloud storage, book publishing and now live TV. Using their own private fashion labels, the e-commerce giant will release their first ever live TV show that will compete with YouTube.
AMAZON’S STYLE CODE LIVE IS QVC FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Hosted by a crack team of three fashion gurus, Style Code Live makes Amazon look like a QVC for the YouTube generation. The wacky hosts will interview guests as well as offer fashion advice for viewers. Being the e-commerce monster that they are, viewers will be able to buy these aforementioned products from a link under the video player. Essentially, it will be an interactive infomercial. For those wondering they’ll get a chance to take part in such a fabulous event, you will. The show will run live every weeknight.
INTENSE COMPETITION IN LIVE STREAMING COMMENCES
Style Code Live is just the first live show that will be a part of Amazon’s increasing lineup of original, streamable content. This surely takes aim at market leader Netflix. Netflix does not currently offer live television streaming. If this proves to be a success for Amazon, they will surely branch out to other genres. Add their ability to pair products with their content, and you get an efficient money making a machine that not many will keep up with. To stream in this way is still new to the entertainment world. Perhaps the closest competition is YouTube and even then, the e-commerce giant has nothing to worry about.
YOUTUBE LIVE IS FOR AMATEURS
YouTube has always been for the people, by the people. At the moment, it offers live streams in the form of games, music, sports and news. Live streaming of high-quality, original content, however, is something YouTube is lacking in. It doesn’t seem likely they will have the funds or content to compete with the Amazon machine. That being said, they can still carve out their own niche in the market. For example, one could live stream a Total Solar eclipse on “the tube”. It was free, educational and no one tried to sell you a dress while it happened. I’m looking at you Style Code Live.
