What could be so dangerous about a cute little electric car? A lot apparently. Nissan Leaf is recalling more than 47,000 of its electric cars in the U.S and Canada. Sources say this is due to a possible brake malfunction. Seeing as brakes are a fairly important feature of a car, this recall is probably a good call by the Japanese automaker.
BRAKE BOOSTER IN NISSAN LEAF FAILS
U.S safety regulators posted documents on Saturday in regards to the Leaf and its brake dilemma. They say the problem is centered on some relay that resided inside the cars electronic brake system. In extremely cold temperatures, the relay in the brakes can fail. This requires the driver to apply more pressure to operate the brakes which in turn increases the risk of a crash. While no accidents have been reported to Nissan, the automaker will notify Leaf owners if they need repairs.
LOOK UP VIN NUMBER TO FIX BRAKES
A link has been provided for Nissan Leaf owners to fix the necessary issues if they wish. Seeing as this is a life or death issue, surely they will do so with great haste. Dealers will be able to fix the software that controls the Nissan Leaf’s brake’s for no cost at all to the driver. A total of 46,859 Leafs in the U.S and 679 in Canada between years 2013 and 2015 will be recalled. Nissan says these models were made between November 19, 2012, and July 21, 2012. Let’s hope they’ve tightened up the operation since then.
CANADA SAVES THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS
If it wasn’t for Canada, the Nissan Leaf may have had the lives of thousands in its bloody hands. Being an expert on cold weather, Canadian regulators begin looking at the brake issue last February. This proves that Canada is truly looking out for its southern relative. It’s brought the world the sweet nectar of the maple leaf and saved it from the harsh poison of the Nissan Leaf. Let us all raise a glass of our favorite Canadian whiskey to the boys up north. Thanks, Canada, you may be weird, but we love you.
