Google News: Google Maps to Compete with Google Waze?

STREETMAP.CO.UK: GOOGLE MAPS FOR BRITS Google News: Google Maps to Compete with Google Waze? Clapway

In the latest Google News, Google Maps attempts to change their evil Waze and go cute. The app just announced a new feature for its Android Maps app that will let you customize both home and work addresses with adorable virtual stickers. Apparently, just getting from point A to B isn’t enough for some people.

GOOGLE MAPS INTIMIDATED BY WAZE

Waze and Google Maps are both owned by the same company. The best part about them was they had different “ways” (pun, fully intended) of approaching navigation. Google was straight forward and efficient, while Waze was more visually pleasing and feature laden. That difference simply wasn’t enough and now Google  has to bring stickers into their world. For those unimaginative folk who can’t visualize what an apartment or boat looks like, now they can rejoice. This useless feature will allow users to put their “dream home” sticker on their map. Sure, it makes your map a little more “you”, but that’s what Waze was for.

GOOGLE NEWS REPORTS STICKERS HAVE A PURPOSE

Well, we all know where I stand on the matter, but Google News says these stickers do actually have a purpose. These stickers represent saving your home and work addresses in maps, thus making it easier to have one-tap access. That being said, this feature is really nothing new, it’s just being disguised as something else. Saving your address in Google Maps or Waze has been around for a while. The only difference now is that it’s represented by some cheesy image. This isn’t Google News, it’s Google selling out. Is this what they mean by focusing their operations in a more business-oriented focus? Bring back the floating internet balloons and A.I droids. That stuff was cool, this is just… stickers.

GOOGLE SHOULD RELEASE A STRIPPED DOWN MAPS

The next Google News should say something about Google Maps just for the die-hards. Believe it or not, some people just want to get from point A to point B. No stickers or unnecessary visual effects. Tell me what route to take and I’ll follow it to the end of the earth. Features that benefit the driver are fine. Google Maps traffic and detour features are second to none, but stickers. C’mon guys. You really are better than that. Don’t make this amazing app a bloated mess. I guarantee the next Google News we here will be some feature linking our directions to the multitude of social media channels. “Now your friends can join in on the fun as you use a map” they’ll say. Instead, we get stickers.
