Tesla to Raise Prices: 5 Things You Didn't Know Clapway

The latest addition to Tesla’s family was unveiled with historic success. The Model 3 marks the electric car maker’s entry into producing an affordable product. While that will certainly keep the mass market happy, Elon Musk is not finished with the luxury side of things. Musk has just announced a high-end Model S, and as one can expect, it will be sexy, classy and of course, electric. Here are five other things to know.

1. TESLA MODEL S TO GET EXTERIOR UPGRADES

The new high-end Model S will have both exterior and interior restyling. On the outside, expect a new set of LED headlights and restyling of the nose. The nose will look closer to the Model X and Model 3, a bit less rounded and more angular instead. Consumers will also have some more exterior color choices.

2. EXPECT INTERIOR UPGRADES AS WELL

Don’t judge a book by its cover. While the upgraded Model S will certainly look swell on the outside, it’s interior beauty will see some changes. The luxury sedan’s front seats will now be replaced by those from the Model X SUV. Don’t worry, not the rear one’s that received a bit of criticism when they first came out. Another nice feature one can expect is the addition of more interior storage.

3. THE INCREASED PRICE IS UNKNOWN

Price is a pretty important factor to many Tesla buyers. Unfortunately, for the time being, the price of the Model S will remain a secret. All we know at this stage is that it will cost more. So set aside a few extra bucks a week just to be safe.

4. ELON MUSK IS CONCERNED ABOUT IMAGE

The fact that the Model S is getting an upgrade shows that Elon Musk is concerned about the company’s image and the car’s sense of exclusivity. With the mass market appeal of the Model 3, many more Tesla’s will be found on the road. Musk doesn’t want this to cheapen his reputation so now, we have the new Model S. The tweaks should be enough to appeal to the more financially gifted consumers who think the four-year-old Model S needs an upgrade.

5. THE UPGRADES ARE FOR MORE THAN JUST AESTHETIC

Yes, upgrading the Model S will certainly make it look better, but there is s bigger picture to be examined here. Despite the success of Tesla, they are at risk of falling into a trap of becoming a niche product. Many still think electric cars are just a phase, but if Tesla really wants to compete with the big boys like Mercedes and Audi, they will have to keep up. By increasing the luxurious aspects a bit, Elon Musk will have a fighting chance to have his line of cars competing with the best.
