Apple is in trouble as sales continue to decline, leaving Google Android fans happy. One of Apple’s most prolific products, the iPhone, has definitely fulfilled the prophecies. However, like all great empires, the innovative tech company may be in decline. The iPhone has made the company $600 billion in revenue during its reign, but the Google may be pulling ahead and taking a lead smartphone. The debate over iPhone and Android by consumers has always leaned in favor of the iPhone, but with features and design technology being bought from other companies, the Apple iPhone may be bland to prior fruit loyalists. Can anything be done, or is it simply time or a new leader in smartphone technology?
The iPhone Decline of 2016
The year 2016 has not been kind to Apple. The quarterly earnings were anything but enthusiastic for the company. Sales have been slowly declining, with price tags and exclusivity taking a backseat to more affordable Google Android devices. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus may be the company’s savior, but the lack of new features and technology bought from Samsung may make it less appealing. Sales have fallen 15 to 20 percent in 2016, and rumors of 30 percent production cuts have been circling as well. Does the next generation iPhone appeal to you?
Google Android Aims for Apple Demise
A storybook uprising, the Google Android has begun taking back its kingdom of tech. In markets around the world, the Android is simply purchased more than the iPhone. Even in China, Apple’s second-largest market to the U.S. is becoming a more Android friendly atmosphere. The Google Android market shares in China increased by 3.4 percent in the first quarter. Compared to the 2015 numbers, Google is at 76.4 percent. Interestingly, the increase can be attributed directly to Apple market share decline in China, which was 3.2 percent. It is truly a historic moment for smartphones, the first time Apple lost footing in China since 2014.
What is Next for Smartphones?
The changing of the guard may be a welcomed moment for Android fans. They can now rejoice and enjoy using a smartphone that is preferred to the iPhone in many regions of the world. But I wouldn’t count out the iPhone yet since new features and innovation can always be launched in some trendy new package to entice consumers to choose exclusivity over price and convenience. The leveling off of the smartphone companies may also allow a new company to take the market by storm. It will be interesting to see what the iPhone 7 will bring, and how the Android will evolve as well.
