Is NASA sending mixed signals to aliens? Some scientists believe that we can no longer hide from aliens. And that we need to approach the messages we send to aliens with more care. A San Francisco based nonprofit called Meti, or Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence International, claims we are being too careless. If aliens do in fact exist, it is likely they are aware of Earth and humans. And have known about us for some time. This makes communication with them important, whether it is by Meti or NASA.
Meti Warns NASA
The president of Meti International, Douglas Vakoch said that the information we are sending to aliens is not enough. He fears that too little information could, in fact, spark an alien invasion. He also noted that it was too late for humans to hide from aliens. They already know we are here. Meti International also believes that our alien neighbors are waiting for us to tell them we are open for future discussion. Is alien communication in the NASA budget?
Contacting Aliens by 2018
Can you hear me now? That may be too simple for them, and may cause an alien invasion of epic proportions. That is why the good folks at Meti International have taken steps to contact aliens for NASA. NASA may not fund it, but they may do a better job than the space agency. Meti plans on making their first attempt at alien radio transmission by the end of 2018. However, some believe that making contact could be dangerous. It simply depends on how you do it, according to Vakoch. That is why they have developed messages for aliens that are informational and proactive. They are kind of like a marriage counselor between NASA and extraterrestrials.
What Do We Need To Say?
Since E.T. may be using different ways of communication than Earthlings, finding a happy space medium is essential. In fact, messages to intelligent alien life have been sent out since 1974, according to Meti International. The how is the question. Some say pictures, and some say a series of binary numbers. But what do we say? Should we use a formal greeting, like if you were to meet Japanese clients for the first time? Or should we keep the approach toward our alien neighbors more millennial? What would you say?
