Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a seemingly innocent picture on social media the other day. But some small details have generated privacy concerns. On Zuckerberg’s private Apple Macbook, some strategically placed pieces of tape cover up the camera and microphone, possibly out of concern for FBI spying.

What started out as a fun post commemorating the success of Instagram, quickly took a sharp turn towards a privacy debate. It takes a good eye to see it, but looking at Mark Zuckerberg’s photo, one can see his personal Apple MacBook in the background. Upon further examination, a few interesting pieces of information arise. Two pieces of tape, one on the camera, and one on the microphone jack indicate Zuckerberg has some safety concerns. If a billionaire like Zuckerberg fears the feds are snooping around, it might be something we should all think about.
THE FBI MIGHT BE WORKING WITH APPLE TO HACK INTO MACBOOKS
Looking at the picture, one instantly notices that Zuckerberg has a Macbook. For the sake of discussion, let’s say that he knows the FBI is spying on him. Does this mean the FBI is working with Apple entirely or just for this particular case? After all, Zuckerberg is one of the most high-profile people in the tech industry, if not the world. He seems like the type of person the government would want to observe. Odds are that average Joe pumping fuel at 7/11 has nothing to worry about. It still doesn’t hurt to be careful, though.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR APPLE MACBOOK SAFE FROM THE FBI
Even if Zuckerberg is a little paranoid, it’s still a good idea to keep your MacBook safe from prying eyes. Besides going with the rustic tape system, keeping your OS up to date will keep your device safe from new threats that arise. When it comes to passwords, use password assistant to create secure passwords that will be hard to crack. Additionally, turning on your Mac’s built in firewall will thwart most hackers attempt to break in. If all else fails, perhaps we should follow the steps of Zuckerberg and go buy some tape.
