Uber Tries New Advertising Ploy

For those of us looking to make a great impression, little else shows street cred other than stepping out of a supercar like a Lamborghini or Maserati. International taxi providing super giant Uber is now listing this as an option for their service in Singapore. The option to drive some of the baddest cars on the planet will be offered there up until May 20th. There Uber users will have the ability to be chauffeured around in style in the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, or the luxurious Maserati GranTurismo Coupe.

A ride in the ‘Lambo’, as it is colloquially known is not cheap, and will set Uber users back some $200 (or around £100) for a quarter of an hour, charging an additional $7 for every minute past the first 15 minutes spent in the Spyder which costs up from $181,900. Meanwhile, for the GranTourismo coupe, a more inexpensive option is available at just $165 (or around £80).

Like all Uber taxis, users will be able to choose their supercar by simply choosing in the Uber app. The app also handles the payment, as it is linked to a bank account.

“This is a pilot partnership to offer something amazing to riders in Singapore,” Uber spokesperson Karun Arya told CNET. “If we see a fantastic response and continuing the partnership makes commercial sense for both companies, no reason why we cannot extend this further.”

Users traveling around in the over hundred thousand dollar cars will feel even more like a celebrity due to the face that Singapore doesn’t see luxury supercars that often. In the island state, even a mid-sized family sedan can usually cost more than $100,000 after taxes.

Users trying to pick up chicks (or dudes) in the supercars will have to remember however that the cars only have two seats, one for the driver and the passenger, so would-be dates will simply have to wait their turn. Hopefully the Uber enthusiasts wont be going too far.

This is another great advertising move by company Uber, who has previously employed celebrities to chauffeur users for charity in Volkswagen cars in Malaysia and also has offered its users free rides around the Melbourne F1 circuit.
