This past Wednesday, official sources from the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) announced that Chile has won the bid to host the Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) in 2015. From October 5th to the 8th, hundreds of delegates from around the world will gather in Puerto Varas, in the region of Los Lagos, to attend this annual event.
Established in 1990, the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) currently serves over 1,000 members in 80 countries worldwide. The popular annual Adventure Travel World Summit trade conference brings together tourism boards, tour operators, companies and agents across the globe interested in the growth of the adventure tourism industry – a business that has expanded at a 65 percent yearly rate since 2009, according to the 2013 Adventure Tourism Market Study. Thus, to keep up with this rapidly evolving $263B industry, the ATWS conference engages and strengthens the leaders of the adventure travel community with professional networking opportunities, business and professional development programs, and educational seminars, among other resources.
Chile, which has been a long-term member of the ATTA, is currently the South American country with the largest number of partners. Puerto Varas, specifically, is the ideal venue for the 2015 Adventure Travel World Summit for a number of reasons. Thanks to its beautiful landscapes, scenic views, national parks, and reservations of biosphere forests, Chile has immense potential in the adventure travel sector. Well-known regions, such as the Atacama Desert, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego also provide the perfect destination for popular activities such as hiking, trekking, fly-fishing, kayaking, and even horseback riding.Currently, almost 20 percent of the country is protected.
In 2015, over 700 Summit delegates will have the opportunity to experience everything that Chile has to offer through Pre-Summit Adventures and Day of Adventures events that are hosted before the start of the ATWS. Through this manner, the Adventure Travel Trade Association hopes to encourage the growth of the adventure travel sector for years to come in Chile and around the world.
