Have you dropped your e-reader on the toilet again? Did it slip from your nimble hands while you soaked in your weekly bubble bath and met its inevitable demise? Good news for you, then, because the new Nook is waterproof and can now fully survive most trips to your bathroom.
Fresh out of Barnes and Noble, the Nook GlowLight Plus
The new nifty gadget looks sleek in design, using aluminum where other B&N e-readers used plastic. It’s basically the size of an iPhone 6 Plus and weighs 6.9oz. It also comes with a 6.4″ backlit screen, ideal for showers in the dark or late night walks on the beach if you’re looking to permeate some clichés. You can read worry-free as you drop your overpriced bath bombs on your tub, and even ask it to test the water temperature for you without risking its life or the next page of that gender-swapped Twilight novel.
Like the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, it has a 300 dpi resolution, giving for crisp text and solid texture, though the Papewhite may not be so keen to keep you company as you walk in the rain without an umbrella with some Creed blasting from your headphones.
The Nook GlowLight Plus is all for it though. It’ll welcome it with arms wide open.
Actual Resistance Details
This new Nook can sit in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes absolutely damage free, so we can finally live all of our merpeople fantasies, though they’ll still be just wishful thinking if you can’t open your eyes underwater. The GlowLight Plus also comes with 2.6 GB of internal storage that will go unharmed even through the times you’ll elbow it into the sink while you do the dishes or the times when your dog will use it as a wee-wee pad because it thinks you shouldn’t have switched from the Kindle. Don’t worry, though, this aluminum bad boy will show your pet who’s boss.
Some of the drawbacks that beta testers have highlighted about the device is that it’s slow to refresh, although it is stylish, practical and a good alternative. Many don’t think it’ll inspire Kindle users to switch.
B&N Readouts For Your Browsing Needs
New to the GlowLight Plus are the B&N Readouts, a section of the Nook that gives readers quick previews of books, which can be read in less than two minutes. They’re meant to mirror the experience of going aisle browsing in your local library or bookstore, but we all know it’s really meant for the two-minute pee trips in the middle of the night after you drank too much water or too much beer at the pub down the street.
Even when you’ve had too much to drink, stumble home and land face-first on your toilet, your nifty Nook will be with you through rain or shine, spill or squirt, vomit or spit.
As for how the GlowLight Plus will perform in sales, it is yet to be seen, but for all of us who are bathroom and gadget enthusiasts, the GlowLight Plus is a sure win.
Your move, Amazon.
