Vodafone has been the second telecommunications company to be hacked in less than one week. The company released a statement wherein they announced that hackers had gained access to the information of 2,000 clients between October 28 and 29, having potentially gained access to the last four digits of their accounts and their bank sort codes.
They first identified the unauthorized attempts at access on midnight of October 28, and the company immediately notified National Crime Agency and the Information Commissioner’s Office. The company ensured that clients had been notified and that they had nothing to worry about as they would ascertain their privacy remain private. Vodafone’s system was not directly breached, the company said, but hackers were able to get customer information via customers’ email addresses through a third party.
The TalkTalk hack last week affected not only all of their customers, but those of 14 other companies, Vodafone included.
No credit or debit card information was stolen, and all accounts breached are frozen and under fraud alert.
