Airbus intends to pick a buyer for its defense electronics unit by the end of 2015. This comes as part of its plan to dispose of assets with combined revenues of around $2.13 billion.
Airbus Wants to Fight Terrorism
Airbus confirmed these claims, saying that they’d like to clarify a buyer by the end of 2015. Europe’s biggest aerospace group is now selling several businesses to focus on the manufacture of warplanes, missiles, launchers, and satellites though it’s not likely that it closes any sales in before 2016. The price for the defense electronics could go for as high as $1 billion euros, and there are rumors circulating that Germain defense group Rheinmetall and Blackstone are the top bidders, against Cinven and Thales.
The Purpose of These Sales
Airbus hopes to devote these sales to improve flying during war time and in war zones, including making radars, optronics, electronic warfare weapons and border control applications, and things like surveillance equipment fro pilots when they fly over foggy areas at night. On the long run, this could go to efforts to fight terrorism, with the threat of ISIS high and dry. The deals are set to start closing out throughout 2016, with hopes that whoever takes over the units can aid the world effort against climate change and terrorism.
