The Google Quantum Computer, D-Wave 2X, is allegedly 100 million times faster than a conventional PC, and can give China’s supercomputer a run for its money. The company has put the supercomputer to work in apps like Google Photos and Autofill, as well as Google’s small and large data centers.

This Computer is the Fastest To Date

The supercomputer has a 1,000-qubit quantum processor that can blow through thousands of possibilities while problem-solving. Members of the team behind its genius have released statement regarding the computer’s power. The D-Wave 2X has faced much criticism, since there hasn’t been any proof to show if it really is that powerful. Hartmut Neven, head of Google’s Quantum AI Lab, has responded to those claims.

Google recently released the results of the study of quantum annealing, which the Google Quantum Computer is designed to support. It’s more than 10 to the power of 8 times faster than simulated annealing running on one core, Neven shares. This means that the supercomputer outdoes its traditional counterpart by far.

Quantum Computing Cheats Problem Solving

Conventional computers are like classic students in a classroom. The Google quantum computer offers a way to cheat on these tasks, allowing handlers to fast track to the final answer instead of going through the whole process of finding it. The total report of the study is published in a paper called ‘What is the Computational Value of Finite Range Tunneling?’ in the Cornell University Library.

Google Quantum Computer isn’t Ready for the World Yet

With all the hype surrounding the supercomputer, it’s clear that there’s still a long way to go before it can solve Google-level learning challenges. Though the Google quantum computer does a great job of making tasks easier, the team behind it is looking to make it even easier.

As such, Google has built a team to be in charge of hardware at the Quantum AI Lab. Their tasks is to build new quantum processors and superconducting electronics. Hopefully, the Google quantum computer can see the bright light of day soon.
